DJ Malkia is the newest addition to ZANJ RADIO with her show, The Flava Lab, which begins airing on September 2. Malkia is a Hip Hop, Bass and Electronic DJ based in Nairobi Kenya. Having grown up on her parents’ eclectic combination of African music, country, soul, Reggae and 90s music all which became infused with her own love for hip hop, Malkia ended up with quite a mixed spectrum of musical influence.

She has her own sound, “HIPTRONIQ”, which is a fusion of Hip Hop, funk and electronic music. Malkia got her start in high school where she was in charge of entertainment. Her passion for DJing grew further after high school and she started doing mixes for her friends and family and later moved to Nairobi where she trained as a professional DJ. Malkia is a part of Femme Electronic Kenya (FEKE) and plays on alternative Fridays at Igiza Lounge Nairobi and also every Saturday at Karaoke Nights hosted by Nice Githinji at the same venue. She also hosts and plays at private parties. As a producer, rapper and pianist, Malkia has found plenty of ways to express herself musically.
“For me, it’s all about playing records that get you nodding your head and tapping your feet without even realizing it regardless of the tempo, style, and genre or release date of a record.”
